SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Hickory, Lenoir and more are teaming up and working toward a stellar application for Google in hopes of being the community Google chooses to build its super fast fiber network! Google plans to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. The networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections.

Click here to learn more about the project, to nominate Hickory/Lenoir for the project, and to participate in a survey to help us document out existing access and how we might use the increased access and speed.

The North Carolina Main Street Center named "Swinging Under The Stars-A Tribute to the Big Band Era" as the Best Downtown Special Event during the NC Main Street Conference in New Bern, NC. Swinging Under The Stars began in Hickory in 2008 with the vision of local musician, Rick Cline, who received a one-time United Arts Council Innovative Artist grant. With no future grant funding, Hickory Downtown Development Association was asked to continue the popular event. The music of Swinging Under The Stars features Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and other big band leaders. Held on the Sunday of Memorial Weekend, the event honors the veterans of World War 2.  Swinging Under The Stars is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, 2010 in the Flag Court of Union Square in Downtown Hickory. You're invited!
